Reading For Remission
A close friend of mine and their family has started their second battle through cancer—here is Q’s story.
It all began in 2021, when Q, a high school junior, began experiencing random fevers and nausea. After moving from Boise to Alaska to live with his dad, his symptoms worsened, and a visit to the ER revealed a devastating diagnosis: high-risk pre-B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Quentin began treatment immediately in Anchorage, spending 40 days in the hospital and continuing with over two years of intense chemotherapy and lumbar punctures. After countless trips, treatments, and challenges, he was finally declared in remission in September 2023 and began building his future, enrolling in a heavy-duty diesel mechanic program.
But in the spring of 2025, severe migraines led to tests that confirmed the cancer had returned—this time in his cerebrospinal fluid. Quentin is now in Seattle undergoing aggressive treatment, including chemotherapy and CAR-T cell therapy. If that fails, radiation and a bone marrow transplant—gratefully with his sister Jocelynn as a match—will follow. The family faces another long and difficult road ahead, but this time, they’re surrounded by a strong support system of friends and chosen family. Their strength and love are unwavering as they fight alongside Q once again.
